Future Developments

A four stage upgrade to an ultimate capacity of 58000 EP is described by Sinclair Knight (1991):

  1.  augmentation of the Lennox Head STP

  2. upgrading of the sewage/collection networks servicing the Lennox Head STP

  3. staged redirection of sewage flows from the West Ballina STP to Lennox Head; and

  4. phased closure of the West Ballina plant at the end of its economical life in around 2005.

Effluent from Lennox Head STP will be discharged at Skennars Head outfall and used for land irrigation. Until the date of closure, effluent from the West Ballina STP will continue to be discharged into North Creek Canal with a small proportion disposed of by land application.
